The Fair Housing Act
The Fair Housing Act protects individuals with a mental health diagnosis from discrimination. This act also ensures that Emotional Support Animal owners are not charged additional fees for their pets. This act includes student/on campus housing.
The Air Carrier Access Act
The Air Carrier Access Act allows individuals to have their emotional support animal in the cabin of the plane with them. The airline itself may have additional requirements, refer to the law and check specifically with the airline to ensure appropriate travel arrangements. ESA’s are allowed for flights only, this act does not apply to other means of transportation such as buses, taxis, trains, etc.
